The newly elected Modi 3.0 Govt. started its work on Monday, June 10, 2024 with new enthusiasm and aggressive plans. The new Cabinet held their first meeting and made a huge decision of building 3 crore houses in rural and urban areas. This decision was made just one day after Modi was sworn in for his third term as Prime Minister in a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
PMAY: Since 2015
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was started in 2015-16 to help people in rural and urban areas build homes with basic amenities. So far, 4.21 crore houses have been built for poor families through various housing schemes under PMAY. These homes come with essential facilities like toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and water taps.
New Plan for More Houses
In the 2024 election campaign, the BJP promised to build an additional 30 million houses under PMAY. The Cabinet’s decision to build these houses shows their strong commitment to provide homes to everyone. In her budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned this plan and said, “We will build 2 crore more houses in the next five years to meet the growing needs of families. This project aims to reduce the housing shortage and improve the quality of life for millions of people by providing safe and decent living conditions.”

“One for All, All for One”
This decision is a collective effort of the NDA government to tackle housing problems. All the 72 ministers, including the 11 Ministers from the NDA allies agreed for this. Key ministers like Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Rajnath Singh kept their positions and showed happiness for their first decision as move towards PM Modi’s 3.0 term.
Housing For All by 2024
As Modi 3.0 begins with this housing project, the main goal of this new government is to support growth and development in India. The construction of these houses will create jobs, boost the economy and give a big push to the construction industry.
With the approval of constructing 3 crore rural and urban houses, the new Cabinet is showing its dedication to improving housing and living standards for everyone. This is a major step towards the government’s aim of ‘Housing for All’ by 2024.
