OLA Quits Google Maps Services, Saves INR 100 Crore with In-House Tech: Creates Map for the Future

Ola Cabs has switched from Google Maps to its in-house Ola Maps. By this they are saving approximately INR 100 crore annually. This new map includes new features like street view and 3D maps. They have also featured their transition to Krutrim AI. By this, they are enhancing their mapping and AI services.

OLA Quits Google Maps Services, Saves INR 100 Crore with In-House Tech

Ola Cabs, a major ride-hailing company, has stopped using Google Maps. Now, they have switched to their own mapping system called Ola Maps. This move is helps OLA Cabs to save about INR 100 crore every year.

Exciting New Features on the Way

Bhavish Aggarwal, the co-founder and chairman of Ola Group, shared his opinions and vision on social media platform X. He says that many new features will be coming very soon to Ola Maps. Some of these features include street view, neural radiance fields (NERFs), indoor images, drone maps and 3D maps. They are trying to bring the whole map revolution in the travel industry.

Transition to Krutrim AI

Three months ago, Ola completed moving all its work to Krutrim. It is their in-house artificial intelligence (AI) firm. It provides GPU-as-a-service on its AI computing infrastructure. By this they are enabling businesses and developers to train and refine their models. This transition happened after the Ola Cabs ended its partnership with Microsoft Azure.

Krutrim AI’s Cloud GPUs

On June 28, 2024, Aggarwal revealed the pricing for Krutrim AI’s on-demand cloud GPUs. It ranges from INR 105 per hour to over INR 1,160 per hour. This majorly depends on the utilization of specific GPU types.

Weekly Product Updates

Aggarwal announced that there will be regular updates about new products on Krutrim Cloud. He plans to start a weekly thread on social media to keep users informed about the latest developments.

Offering More Than Just Maps

Ola Maps will also provide location intelligence services. Like this, they will be adding many new features to AI computing. This means users and businesses will benefit for this advanced revolution in the travel and transportation industry.

Ola’s Acquisition of GeoSoc

In October 2021, Ola acquired a startup named GeoSoc. It is a Pune-based company that provides geospatial services. This acquisition has helped Ola strengthen its mapping and location services.

By making these strategic changes, Ola is positioning itself to offer better services while saving a significant amount of money.
